Talking

Hey all, I'm very new to this forum, and to Rx-7. I'm looking at a 1987 Turbo II. The car is in,....okay shape. It has 167K on the body with a new motor w/ 250 miles on it. Also has new tires, and clutch. Need brakes,...just pads i think. The paint on the hood needs repainting, and small misc. things need repair. I was in the market for a Conquest TSI, but knowing lots about Starquests, it prolly wasen't a good idea for my lifestyle. This seems like a much better idea. My question are these, i talked him down to $2500 for the car. That one thousand less than what he originaly wanted. I believe that to be a fair price. what do you think? Also, the engine is suppostly new, but at idle after warm up, it is rough and almost surgeing a bit. What is that about? The problem is i can't really push it to see if it revs, okay or if the turbo kicks becasue of the new engine. I engaged the trubo for just a second to make sure it still kicked. How long, if i buy this car, do i have to wait till i can push it. One more thing,.......is it safe to assume that i don't need all new rotors (500 bucks) if the brakes are not grinding when applied? I didn't get a chance to pull the tire. Thanks a lot guys.

if the brakes aren't grinding and it doesn't shake when appling brakes, then you should only need new pads, maybe get your rotors resurfaced as well...

2500$ for a tII is a great price, I got mine for 4500$ and I haven't regreted a single dime of it (well, maybe a a time or two i have)...

with any motor you should put at the least 500 miles on the engine to break it in, 750-1000 if you wanna be safe... and when breaking it in, however you run the car is where it is going to set a groove and like to be cruised at(in all of my expierences at least)...

and as far as the idle goes, what you are probaly hearing is afterburn, it's caused from gas not being burned completly inside the engine and igniting in the exhaust, alot of Rx7s have this problem, according to the manual it could be 12 different things, before i put the haltech in my car i had it and I believe it was from the BAC valve, i still have it after i got the haltech in but I'm going to lower the amount of gas at idle so that maybe that will fix it...if you buy the car just give it a tune up, fuel filters(one on pump in tank, and one on the line), air filter, plugs, oil change, etc....

Surging at idle could be the TPS. Try running the car with it disconnected.

It may be a little tough to find alot of TII's out there, but it's worth a try. Where did you find that TII?
