I know a guy with a 13B in a 914. It's a great idea, the problem is the exhaust. There's not a lot of room for exhaust and the Mazdas are LOUD without at least 2-3 mufflers / presilencers.

I have a kit car with a VW pan(much modified) and am running a '87 Turbo II. I used 3" stainless, a Racing Beat premuffler(from the turbo exhaust system) and a Supertrapp 3" in, 4" out muffler. It has a really nice deep sound.

I'd like to install a rotary in my baja. It's a '69 with independant suspension and a bus transaxle. It ought to stand up to a 13B.

I've just got to figure out where to put the radiator, oil cooler, and how to rig a front motor mount. The horns have already been widened to fit the larger bus trans casing, but I don't know if they'd be up to the task of supporting a rotary in a jump or other 'bajaish' situation. I've got a tube frame pushbar type bumper back there, but it's mostly for looks so I'm not sure if I could weld motor mounts to it and be safe. Maybe if I reattatched the pushbar with some decent hardware like what my friend did on his rotary baja...

I am in the middle of the exact same project. A 13B into a Kelmark GT. I went with a Camden supercharger and a Holley. I can't wait to get it on the road. To support the rear of the engine / Exhaust, I came up with a really cool look. I bought a bolt on set of wheelie bars from Jegs. Going to mount them near the VW horns and let them help support the weight. They should provide support to the engine and exhaust, and look good on the street. I too went with Supertrapps.

I don't think that would be much of an option for a baja, but maybe a Karman Ghia.

Good luck,

Robert

Good to hear your into your 13B/Kelmark project. How far along are you.? I've just got to install my interior, make a roll cage, hook up some guages and a few little odds n' ends and I'm done.

I went with 3" stainless steel tubing and bends from Burns Stainless, a racing beat turbo premuffler and a supertrapp 3" in, 4" out muffler.(It really sound nice!)
