Thanks oodles! So now let me clarify......

Try to save weight by using a generator / starter to both start and produce 12Vdc (I don’t know what your current draw will be?)

A: I have no gear system, so the RPM's are the only key(5000RPM constant); draw will be the engine and two .25HP electric motors with a small motorcycle battery. How small a starter will turn over a 12A? I may have to re-start in the middle of the run.

I’m not sure about this one, but you may be able to use a Flex-plate from an automatic trans

A: Who carries them?

Intake/exhaust – I would think you could use the stock carb with no problem to 5000 with light loading.

A: I don't need tiny injectors for such a limited fuel supply? And instead of 10%nitromethane what about octane-boosted standard fuel? The base powerband is plenty, I just need those RPM's for three minutes on a strict 16oz fuel supply!

For the exhaust, Pacesetter headers are made out of cheap thin gauge tubes

A: Roger that.....are they under 110db? Probably not, huh?

Definitely use synthetic oil for its high heat properties.

A: 5W50? I can get synthetic military turbine lubricant if that'll work....either way, it'll get totally replaced after each run. Are ceramic seals necessary for such a short series of runs???

Since you will have not H2O for cooling, you will need to use air cooling to the max!

A: I'm going to put aluminum finning all over the outside of the casing....or is that a waste of time?

air starter (like they do on the big rigs) that can be switched into a comperssor once running. Run the exhaust from the compressor through the water jacket area for increased air flow to help cooling. The air could also run a turbine alternator/generator.

A: Do you know where I could see the stats on such a unit for weights/measures?

use the largest oil cooler you can find, or better yet use 2 of them.

A: Is an oil-cooler going to even begin working in only three minutes?????

Q: Finally, how hot does a 12A get in three minutes@5000RPM with no H2O cooling......anybody??????

Thanks again for the good scoop!!!!!!!! I'm gonna put your ID on the project just for your input!

dunno all the answers, but about the the Starter...you might be able to use a motorcycle starter, rotaries dont have nasty compression.

The aluminum fins MIGHT help, but i truely dont know if its worth it, unless you have a big fan pushing a shitload of air.

Check out that air starter..sounds like a good idea if they arent HUGE.

Oil Cooler will Defintetely help, especially without H2o cooling, the engine will start to use it rather quickly, almost sure before 3minutes. And im sure every little bit helps.

How hot? if something goes wrong, the temps will SHOOT up! dunno on your set up though.

Good luck

Hi all, some pretty radical cars and ideas there. I just can't seem to leave any of mazda's alone!! I got a 1987 B2200 with the old R2 diesel in the engine bay. Great fuel economy, but when you also have a modified series 1 Rx7 and series 2&3 Rx2's , it a bit of let down I can tell you!!! So a 13b turbo is accidently gunna fall in and in my neck of the woods(Queensland Australia), the 'powers that be' have no problem with approving the conversion because of the full chassis of the ute. Do they do those sort of conversions the the US??

Hey Treceb, I've been in a bettle with just a 12A in the back and it was VERY exilarating, so your Karmann would be VERY lethal!!! :0

Hi all. Hey just finished another wild rotary conversion. 1971 Toyota Corolla coupe. The old 3k toyota motor finally packed it in so in went a 12A with a nice bridgeport. The local authorities even approved the conversion. We haven't tried the quarter yet but it's quite quick. Customer liked it and that's the main thing!
