I had a friend of mine who had a ported 12A in a Lotus Europa. You talk about a small car. The car weighed maybe 1500 pounds, with him sitting in the car. It would flat out fly. Before I moved he was building another car, a Lotus Super 7 with a 13 Turbo. I haven't talked to him since I moved, but I can imagine have that car would have been once completed. Definately would have been fun.

whoa this topic is symbolically linked somehow.

Man I totally jacked this topic, sorry guys I shouldn't have screwed with it, my bad.

hmm...that sux

but its all gravy...**** happens.

whoever posted about building the engine and running it for 3 minutes..REPOST!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Wow, I am batting 1000 today, really sorry about this guys, I was trying to move this and I deleted it and was realized it at the last second... long story short I screwed up... my bad.

No problem about the post-killin'.....I try to never bag-on anybody pulling support roles.

I think we all know you are trying!

Anyhew.....here we go again......

I need a superlightweight starter, flywheel, and alternator for a 12B radical project that

I can't discuss(although I'm dyin' to talk about it!) AND, the lil' bugger needs an

intake/exhaust system that'll let it run @ 5000RPM for 3 minutes on synthetic oil

and 16ounces of oil-blended fuel(possibly 10%nitromethane RC fuel?!)

without the benefits of H2O cooling........hey, what do ya expect.......

rotorheads are envelope-pushers, man!!!!! Thanks!

phinsup 11-14-2001 06:49 PM

thanks guys, I swear I will just push the post topic button next time!!! I was reading and it was a great topic.... so I thought I would reply, but I didn't... oh well.

Thanks again for being sports!!!

Ok, I stoked the fire in the old brain and these are a few ideas going by the limited requirements listed.

1) Try to save weight by using a generator / starter to both start and produce 12Vdc (I don’t know what your current

draw will be?) You can find examples on lawn tractors (my friend John Deer he restored has a huge starter/generator unit on it) The only problem is that the generator will not run to high RPM, so your gear selection will be critical.

2) I’m not sure about this one, but you may be able to use a Flex-plate from an automatic trans instead of the std

flywheel. I think you need to use the correct automatic counterweights on the motor.

3) Intake/exhaust – I would think you could use the stock carb with no problem to 5000 with light loading. For the

exhaust, I’ve heard that the Pacesetter headers are made out of cheap thin gauge tubes – just right to keep the weight down!

4) Definitely use synthetic oil for its high heat properties. R/C fuel is mostly alcohol with castor oil and nitro added

(up to about %60 for racing https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR ). My knowledge of alcohol burning engines is that they usually need about twice the volume of fuel as compared to gasoline. This sounds like it could be a problem with your limited fuel supply of 16oz. The plus is that they run cooler on alcohol.

5) Here is a wacky idea https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif Since you will have not H2O for cooling, you will need to use air cooling to the max!

Are you required to use a 12Vdc starter? OK, here is my idea, use an air starter (like they do on the big rigs) that can be switched into a comperssor once running. Run the exhaust from the compressor through the water jacket area for increased air flow to help cooling. The air could also run a turbine alternator/generator.

Oh, and use the largest oil cooler you can find, or better yet use 2 of them.

wheres the rest. oh man. ohh well.

I was planning on putting a 13B in my Karmann Ghia. Was contemplating boosting it up, too.

But the idea died out after a day at the track. I want to race against 4 bangers, not rotaries.

But, i havent decided yet. The plans are still up in the air. Ill decide once i finish up my beetle.
