Engine Questions For Project Car
#11
Holy crap man. You're doing the same conversion I am.
I got a '74 914. I got the motor and everything ready almost, I am going to start on the 914 this weekend and prep it with a semi tube chassis.. I got the trans adapter made from kennedy engineering. Ran me $1200 for it. GEt the heavy duty kit. I'll be pushing 350 HP or so. I got a 901 trans. When it blows up I'm upgrading to a 915. GOOD LUCK AND KEEP US UPDATED! At this rate, I'm gonna have to make a 914 rotary club! LOL!
OH! WHERE ARE YOU FROM? So. Cal. here.
Here are my pics!

Nice car! What year engine did you use? Did you run the cooling lines under the car? I plan on getting Renegade Hybrids' kit. How did you do the mounting? My biggest issue with the conversion right now is how to mount the engine to the engine bar as I don't have access to a welder. Some one had mentioned a company called Red Dog Racing in Tehatchepi, CA, that made a subframe to support the engine for our project, but I haven't found anything on them yet.
I am in So. Cal. as well. Near Magic Mountain. As for the Rotary 914 Club, I'm all for it! I keep finding that the number of us is growing almost as fast as the PorChev's.
After reading up on the specs, I realize now the T3 turbo may be a bit small as I will be starting off with about 210hp N/A, so I may scrap that part of the project.
Cheers!
Chris.

Hi Guys, I am working on installing a 20 B Seq. turbo into a 914. ANY input would be helpful... We bought the car partially finished, and I am now sitting and scratching my head as to where to start... BTW- I am in Anaheim Hills and the car is at our shop in Santa Ana.

Check out:

for a good write up on a rotary install in a 914.
Should be a great conversion!
If you know anyone looking for a turbo rotary powered 911 mine is for sale.

Yeah, I found that write up already, but does anyone have contact information for any of those guys? Especially the one that used the 20B...
One other question- have any of you had had problems feeding too much power into the stock tranny? I get different answers from everyone... (blow it, won't blow it, should be fine...)

Contact the owner of the site. He is a great guy and very helpful. He might be able to pass your name along to the 20B owner.

The stock 915 (911) tranny is good for 350 horse.
With skinny tires both transmissions should last a long time. Wider tires will cause much more load and things are much more likely to break.
Renegade Hybrids has a huge write up on transmissions. It should answer all your questions and even some than you didn't have. They recommend NEVER using first gear with a small block V8.
I would probably want to upgrade to a 915 for a 20B swap. A G 50 transmission would even be a better solution (but a whole lot more money).
