Window the bearings or mod the irons?

I've built two engines and studied both closely and didn't find what you're describing at the rear. What's even more odd is that one of the bearing sets went into an FC and the other an FD. On the FC the front galley was off by .060". On the FD the galleys lined up. Both bearings were the same part number.

I could be that I am an idiot, and didn't read properly, but are you talking about the gear part, or just the babbit part of the bearing? Because I'm sure the bearing itself likes up, the gear part does not. Just trying to clarify things here.

I'm talking about the gear as well. I used a method similar to yours, viewing with the flashlight and what not. Also made measurements from flange to flange with calipers. Marked the irons and gears for a radial reference to make sure they aligned properly that way as well.
