why does atkins do 3mm on all their turbo motors?

3mm has long been considered a solution to the percieved problem of detonation breaking seals. But more and more tuners are now considering it a bandaid to hide other problems, at best. The source of the problem lies in tuning, or inadequate supporting mods for a given hp.

As for Atkins in general, I cant say.

I'm a believer in stock seals. I have firsthand seen what they can do, and for any application the normal (and even not so normal) rotorhead is going to put them through, they do just fine.

atkins does 3mm on all turbo motors they rebuild and that is probly why so many people think that you need them to make power, not just to save a rotor.

My s5TII had it's original motor till 150,000 miles. I tracked it hard for 2 years. Before that I autox'd it hard for 2 years. Before that I street raced it hard for 2 years. pretty damn good if you ask me. It would've lived longer if I hadn't been foolish and tried to run 14 psi. The only issue was huge amounts of fuel was getting into the oil. The oil seals were dead
