i personly like useing the rotary avation super seals for only $250 a set it is a seal that can take a serious beating, i know that it does not seal as well as OEM and will cost a few hp.

i like it so much because when it breaks it dosent shater sending fragments of metle in to the housing and rotor, and chewing up the turbo, it just concaves and you loose compression.

Aren't they harder on the housings though?

kuhnke 02-15-2007 03:16 PM

i would think not because they are not as hard as mazda's, mazda heat treats the tips of the apex seal to give it maximam hardness and sealing, but this procoss also causes the seal to break into pices when detionation occurs.

i use the stockers, they seem to work the best. all the others seem to have mixed results.

In my stuff I use the stock ones. I like them because I hear of guys running insane hp numbers with them and in my own experience have detonated them quite a few times (low boost) without any issues.

Ive put RA's in a few of my friends cars and they are still running fine https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.gif

The more I learn about cooling and timing/fuel maps the less I worry about detonation.......

stockers, the only ones with consistent results.

mazdaspeed7 02-15-2007 07:39 PM

Ive used atkins, RA, and stock. I like the RA's because theyre cheap, and they take abuse. I like atkins for n/a motors because theyre softer and seal better.

non turbo street motors i run ra standard seals in na road race motors i run carbon in turbo motors ra super seals or alex blackson racing. i loved the alex blackson seals as they have a much larger and stronger corner section(more landing on the rotor housing edge) then any other seal i have played with and ther only 200 bucks without springs , just need to get them from redlinerotary in australia.

screw stock, the motors i tore down now and the list is gettin longer by the day now have all been 3 piece, corse i have not torn down any rew motors yet, only s3, s4 na and turbo and s5 na and turbo and cosmo re. where fd seals 2 piece?

fc3sboy1 02-15-2007 08:51 PM

might i also add i only use 2mm seals, never 3mm. 3mm seals are way too hard on housings and do not seal as good as a 2mm and will break just as easy with an improper tune

kuhnke 02-15-2007 09:05 PM

why does atkins do 3mm on all their turbo motors?
