trying to find a good setup for my 6port

hi,
would anyone help me come up with a setup for my 6port gsl-se? i've considered semi-peripheral port down to street port. this is mainly for grocery getting, but more of the redneck type, if you know what i mean. the motor, which you can see a picture of under the heading, "new guy with dumb question," has, from what i've learned, seen better days, so i don't really care about longevity. I am concerned, however, with low end torque as i don't see much of a point without it.
is it okay to retrofit it with a carburetor?
is it okay to convert a 6port to a 4port?
how would i do a semi-pp? is that something you could carb?
i keep asking about a carburetor because i'm not sure i want to deal with efi.
what about a simple turbo setup?
in general, i'm tired of seeing hondas with fart pipes and i want to do something about it. So any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

yep carb works fine, racing beat and mazdatrix both offer either a holley setup or a side draft weber.
6 to 4 port is fine too, but you need to replace the end irons with 12a parts
semi PP is prolly too complex, a simple turbo setup is simpler and will out power it

hey, for anyone checking on this post, I have decided to do a P port. Reasons being, I don't have the money to replace the chrome flaked rotor housings (3mm worth) with new ones, and racing beat has informed me that my six port would need a lot of work to take a turbo i.e. lower compression rotors and end plates etc. They say in general 6 port motors aren't a good choice for turbofication.
So as for a P port, I thought i would do the modifications and get what i can out of it. I hear that low-end torque is going to die.
any suggestions on the chrome flake or the P port would rule.

3mm flaking is so/so its like the borderline, it'll run fine
doing a turbo isnt too bad, none of the factory turbo stuff bolts up, and the gsl-se fuel injection wont work with a turbo either
putting turbo rotors in the engine is doable, you need to get the counterweights too.
PP seems like a lot of work, its also going to be loud

hey thanks for the response, j9fd3s. do you know of any threads or links to any 6 port turbo setups? from what i've read, porting a 6 port does not have the great advantages like the 4 port; i guess since there's not a lot of side plate to port. do you know anything about this? also, i plan on using an aftermarket manifold. What should i do about the insert that closes off the secondary?

the 6 port irons already have more port timing and area than the 4 port, but they dont flow as well. you can port the primary, the same as a turbo engine. the secondary ports can be ported a little too, but its more to clean things up, than to make the hole bigger.
if you can keep the valve that closes the 5th and 6th ports, you'll have more low end, although keeping that stuff and finding room for a turbo is a challenge, its been done though, cartech even used to make a turbo kit
leaving it open is what most people do, you loose lowend, but the turbo should make up for it

do you know if anyone has ever closed off the 5/6 ports (epoxyed?) and shaped the opening ports more like a street ported 4 port?

does anyone know of hp numbers for a street ported 6 port with maybe a weber ida 48, large exhaust port, and an exhaust system that includes just header and muffler? i'm dealing with an '85 13b.

yeah, it's funny to see my thread go from p port to street port! i'm just thinking a p port on the street might be a little too redneck though tempting. I'm at the stage now where i'm done with cleaning everything and now i need to start making some decisions. I definitely want some power (200hp range). My '85 gsl motor isn't going to hold '86 and up turbo rotors, so turbo is out. N/A is perfectly fine with me as long as I can get past that 200hp mark. Any takers?

with a weber and a good port it should do about 200rwhp, give or take a bit depending on exhaust, and tuning

sounds like if you have decent parts, you should just port it, and run it NA, it'll do 180-220hp depending on the setup. turbo rotors do fit, but you have to buy them...
