Strength of a BP after resurfacing irons?

I was wondering if anyone has ever heard or had any problems with the actual BRIDGE section of the bridgeport after resurfacing irons (i.e. thickness of bridge and shape and durability, cooling jackets etc...) Im just curious to know, and if it does affect integrity of the bridge, what is the maximum allowable that i can machine off the irons and still bridge port them?

it depends on what year iron you're trying to surface, the newer engines with the water seals in the irons you're only taking .002" off, that does make the bridge smaller, but it shouldnt be a problem

Im using a Set of irons from my old 1988 Turbo 2 engine. The front iron has the most drop where the corner seals ride by the sparkplugs. I used a dial indicator and pulled up a .003.I know i can use more then that normally but im afraid for the bridge. Am i still in a safe margin or do i need a new front plate? Im also using really low mile 3rd gen housings. I have several to choose from but some of them have cracks around the plug hole. Is That common? Can i even use housings like that? Mind you the cracks are small but im trying to create a very high performance rotary and i only wanna use the best.

you cant take much off of the 86+ irons, because of the water seal.



if the rotor housing is cracked by the plug holes, that means it was HOT. check it for flatness, if its not flat right there its junk
