***I have never had this on the flow bench nor did i do a back to back dyno, I cannot say for sure if this does actually improve power in any way. I did notice a quicker spool and better reaction from the car. But butt dynos are not proof and can be biased... Mod at your own risk***







After looking at the stock UIM, I really dislike the design. Air go's in and hit a flat wall for the primary runners. And there are hard abrupt corners everywhere in the primary and secondary areas. So i cut it open, sandblasted everything, and ground out most of the bumps, corners, and round edges. I then added JB Weld to help smooth the air flow.



Before i go ahead and weld it back up, anyone have any good ideas to further improve upon this "experiment".

There is much more you can do inside there. I just kept it simple to not mess with Mazda's design to much. I filled in some badly shaped areas, and ported out some real hard egdes while removing some unnecessary bumps that were doing nothing but disrupting flow.

But don't go through all that trouble without cleaning up what goes before and after the upper intake manifold...

first you had better make sure you got that thing nice and clean.

This is not new tech, extrude hone has been offering their service for a long time now and you do not have to cut the manifold in half.

I have had good results on ported engines removing that divider between the secondary and primary runners in the plenum. No dyno results, but it felt much stronger, and needed more fuel to get back to the same afr.
