Just curious what you guys are using to check if your eshaft is out of round. Do you use precision V blocks? If so, where did you purchase them?



Any other methods?

After some more research Pineapple racing will be offering the Precision Vblocks for around $25 (maybe a little more). This beats ebay where you sometimes are not sure what you are getting or the right size for the eshaft etc...

Why not just get a set of v blocks from a reputable tool shop?

 

I wanted to, thats the reason I posted to see where others got theirs but no responses.

I dont see what could be changed about a set of v blocks to make them better suited to a rotary, so I wonder why pineapple is "still researching" let alone trying to market something like that.



V blocks are used primarily to check runout. You can check for out of round by simply measuring the journal in multiple places.

 

The lobes can still measure within spec and the shaft can still be out of round to one end. I guess the best way to describe is if the shaft is "bent'. When using the vblocks your just using the vblocks and a dial indicator on one end and spinning the shaft and checking for warpage....

Personally I think Starrett makes the best tools money can buy. With Mitutoyo a close 2nd
