That specific kind is Redline Assembly Lube. I prefer assembly lube or vaseline over motor oil because motor oil tends to burn for much longer and also drips and creeps out everywhere making gasket sealant curing stuff a pain (front cover and oil pan stuff) whereas assembly lube remains intact. I also prefer assembly lube because it's designed specifically as a pre-lubrication for new engines and can also sit a measured time. I'm not sure how well vaseline holds up to this although I'd use it if I were in a pinch. I've been known to use baby-fresh scented Vaseline before. (makes for some trick-smelling exhaust for the first 20 mins or so)

Hmm, I noticed my engine didn't smoke that much at first startup, or for very long. Of course the rotors were dirty (I didn't touch the previously broken-in oil seals and only double checked the apex seals) because all I did was a rotor housing swap due to overheating by the previous owner. It hardly smoked. I'll never use oil as an assembly lube. I'll only use it to prime the oil pump and maybe on the thrust bearings because it's thinner than vaseline, and can get into the 'needles' better.

I guess j9fd3s has used dirty rotors before, too. They're just gonna get dirty anyway.

very nice.

Can you tell me what the width of the bridge is? According to my calculations about 2mm in width is that right?

Awesome action pics. I would have to say that this part of the project is the most exciting. I love the feeling of looking at something with so much love in it. It is up to us to keep this artform from dying. Keep up the good work guys.

Wow, back from the grave.

I think I left this bridge around 2mm. I wouldn't do it again, however, for a street driven car that's counting on some reliability. It makes me nervous having that thin of a bridge.

i think its possible but depends on the thickness of the bridge. However my idea was to have 3mm. width. Im trying to get someone to wel some on the side of the bridge and then polishing/grinding it back into spec.
