I'm about to buy an S4 rotor from someone on the forum, and he says that the width is about 1mm out of spec according to the haynes manual. Is it a mistake to use this rotor? TIA

 

Out of spec.. where?



In the apex seal groove? I wouldn't buy it.. if it's out a full mm, the apex seals will rock in the groove.. And not in a good way like at the club..

Pictures would help ALOT in diagnosing the problem.

 

Your not gonna notice a width out of spec from a picture....

but I messaged the to get the exact measurement of the rotor and to see if he measured in just one spot or 3.



What is the typical width of a new GSL-SE (S3) 13B rotor housing?

 

Edit to previous post: I also asked where on the rotor he measured. Would older rotor housings be much different in width than new?

 

13B rotor housing width should be 80.0mm.

If the rotor is 1mm too narrow, I would PASS!



I dunno how this is even possible?

theres a post about this but to sum up, we had a mana motor fail (used lots of oil) and upon teardown you could see that one of the rotors had been machined on the flanks, and the kicker it was still too wide (.003-.005") larger than a couple other stock rotors we had lying around. it looks like it would have worked but they didnt take enough off.

Can't that be caused by an oil overheat, and it swells the rotors?
