I'm making a pair of throttle bodies for a boosted application and I need to find some sealed roller bearings for the shafts. I've looked around, but few places say if the bearing is actually sealed or not. Can anyone give me some insight into this? I'd prefer to order them from Grainger since there is a showroom/distributer right down the road from me and I can just pick them up anytime.

I think the shielded bearings they carry might work, but I'm not sure.

maybe we are just lucky around here but we have 4 differnt bearing companies near by. try and look in the phone book to see if there is a suplyer near you like we have

2RS bearings have a rubber lip seal on both sides if you're shopping at an industrial bearing supply place.



Playing with that grainger supply website you can just go right through and select a sealed bearing.

Nearly all bearings are now sealed. Rubber like disc with a lip running on the inner race. Shielded bearings have metal discs to do the same thing but will not retain lubricant.



If your plan is to run without a real lip seal on the throttle shaft, you should install two per side. The seals on the bearings will slowly give up the lubricant into the vacuum and run dry. They are for very light duty.



Run grease between the two lip seals to keep the lips supple.
