It seems that the new inner seals has somehow expanded as I was doing my rebuild and now no longer fits. I think it sucked up some oil or mmo, maybe vasaline? Does anyone know how I may be able to shrink them back down to there original size? I would hate to have to buy new ones since these are new but if I have to fork out $30. for each seal...oh well. Any info would be greatly appreciated! There the orange and white thin seals that go between the housings and plates.

vasoiline/assembly oil is the kiss of death for re-rebuilding an engine. they expand because the green part of the seal is just rubber.

if you used hylimar we would not be having this conversation

so break down pay the $80 bucks and take it as a lesson learned

1.I tryed using a blow dryer

2.putting the seals back into grooves with sealant overnight and hoping they take shape

NO GO...

I know thats not what you wanted to hear ... sorry dude

Heres a trick. At the top of the oring cut it with a razorblade. Remove as much material as you need and superglue the seal back together. This has worked just fine in a pinch, but if your motor is goign to be in there for a long time just buy new seals.

You dont have to use hymlar just be more careful.

I have never been able to get those little bastards to stay put without hylomar. Got any tricks/tips?

I use a syringe filled with hylomar. I apply it all the way arround the seal grooves and then streatch the seal in with my thumb. Stays put nicely after that.

It akes a good 30 minutes to do and it takes loads of patience. Being on a tight budget teaches you a lot about patience.

And oh yeah BTW I am Jedi like...

Cut section out at a steep angle. Put the resulting joint on the cold side of the engine. Put a dab of silicone on the joint and 7 dabs around the seal to hold it in the iron. Always works, never a problem.

Are you trying to assemble your engines upside-down or something?

Enough Hylomar to coat the entire seal lightly...

Wait a few minutes...some of the Hylomar will evaporate and leave a tackier surface.

The grooves needs to be extremely clean for it to stick.

I have a bad feeling you're not cleaning the irons enough to allow the Hylomar to work it's magic with the seal.

Ted it sounds like you use hylomar just on the seal itself, not the housings, am I right?
