Got a question:

What is the correct product to use for painting the rotor housing legs when you stack the motor up? Bruce Terrinton (SP?) in his vid calls for Permatex Super 300.

I haven't seen it at any NAPA or Canadian tire (similar to your pep boys stores). Closest I found was Permatex Aviation Form-A-Gasket® No. 3 Sealant.

What should I use? I hear of people even using RTV silicone. What is the difference between a "Gasket Maker" and a "Gasket Sealant" product?

Thanks.

I have seen bottles of "Super 300 Form-A-Gasket Aviation Sealer" so that may work.

We've had quite the discussion here not too long ago. I have no problems with Aviation Seal for gluing a gasket to a water pump or intake manifold, but I had poor luck with using it on housing legs.

The difference is just as it appears, a gasket maker is intended to be used instead of a gasket, while a gasket sealant is intended to be used with a gasket.

factory uses their grey silicon 8527-77-739. those legs seal the top of the oil pan, and thus dont see a lot of pressure, and id think any silicon would work fine. or same stuff as the oil pan uses

Schweet! Grey Silicone it is. One less bottle/tube of chemical to buy.

I used the "Right stuff" by Permetex, it's is OEM quality, but expensive a half tube is 21.99, but any will work, copper, blue, green, purple, green with white dots, use what ever!

But the Right Stuff is great!

RTV works great on the legs. I use wheel bearing grease to hold the coolant seals. Little dabs every few inches in the slots is adequate.

For the oil pan, if I have a gasket, I use RTV. If no gasket, I use The Right stuff.

^^ Bingo! Screw hylomar, it just makes the grooves where the coolant seals harder to clean out when rebuilding.

the plan is this motor is going to last me another 250,000kms. I don't plan on ever opening up this motor once it's in.
