My drawback of getting a parts washer is due to the solvents the majority of them use.. something about that and a welder just makes me hesitant. Like having a bomb in the garage. Couple of sparks some how get to the fumes.. and well, no thanks

I soak the rotors in carburator clean for a day or two, and then pull the seals out by working a large magnet back and forth over the seals that just don't want to come out.

I wouln't make myself crazy trying to clean that rotor. If what you said is true about the rear one you'll need a new set anyhow. In other words if one rotor needs to be changed there's no sense in working on the other unless you want to display it or something.

I am on a tight budget and would rather buy one rotor instead of two rotors.

I bought an offbrand type of "SuperClean" stuff called Purple Power and it melted away the carbon in just a day. But now the rotor is clean there appears to be damage to one of the side seal slots (see my other thread).

BTW: Anyone happen to have a pair of S5 rotors in useable condition for sale?
