17k on rebuilt motor and turbo, just did a compression check on my RX7, and the 1st rotor is no good (1 Apexi seal is gone), the second rotor is still good, can I just replace the first rotor or does the whole engine need to be rebuilt?

you might as well replace all of the apex seals while you have the whole engine apart

Chances are the housing is scratched too.

If you just overhaul one side it usually makes the other side wear quicker from the word on the streets.

What was the compression?

All seals are best. At 17K if it wasnt ran hard you most likely still have a good engine, if there isnt any gouges or scratches, so you might be able to get by by just replacing all the seals and call it good.

Is it a hard job taking the engine apart just to replace that seal? Where is the apex seal located in the rotor?

Hope this doesnt sound that bad, but if you have to ask, then its probably not a good idea to do it yourself before maybe looking into some books
