After seeing the link for the old Honda hatchback using a bridgeported 12a in a FWD setup using a corona's gearbox I got to thinking, what other FWD gearboxes can be coupled to a rotary, mainly say a 13b? A mid-engine setup in an old Toyota MR2 would be sweet and original with something like that.

you can have anything fabricated. have the bellhousing and maybe an input shaft adaptor made and hook it up

Adapter setups are readily available to mate a Mazda rotary to a VW aircooled transaxle, which can have its differential installed backwards for mid-engine placement.

there is alsow a Porsche G50 to 13b adapter availible from Kennedy Engineered Products. it's $752 last I checked, and includes : a flywheel, aluminum adapter plate about 5/8" thick, bolts and pilot bearing. You will also need a 13b automatic counterwieght. A G50 used is $2000, and referbished lowend racing is about $4000. Now I just need the half shafts....

i am building an old Avenger Kit car made by fibre fab the resembles a gt-40 i am planning to use the tranny out of a ford focus the one model they make has a gertag 6 speed transaxle that can take some good power int the focus and my car will only weight 1600 pounds so it should take a good 400 hp my freind is converting a 12a into his fiero right now

Mr. Mike Rudy....

Please let me know how the swap with your friend's 12a fiero goes....

I investigated doing the same thing with a 13b, but there were very large problems with doing so...other than the obvious custom adapter/clutch/flywheel needed:

-Exhaust manifold or headers would have to wrap around one of the axles (hope it never breaks) as the axle is right in front tof the exhaust ports

-The starter on the Getrag MG2 transmission (stonger fiero trans) bolts and engages to the engine side of the flywheel (not the trans side like a mazda trans or porsche transaxle)

This was enough to keep me from going any further into the project. Please send some pictures or some info!
