The car im looking at has a jspec engine in it. Its an 89 Tii with a jdm engine.. The guy said hes got block plates on it and gittede cat with a turbo back system with y pipe... Besides cats, what needs to go in the hood to make the jdm engine possibly pass NJ smog tests? If possible?

Thanks

technically all smog equipment it came with needs to be on there, no one is going to know what it came with, maybe with a good converter you can get it to pass the sniffer and the inspector wont know what else belongs on there

I would recommend an air pump as well.

I believe it absorbs vapors from the fuel tank. Engine vacuum purges it while the car is running.

If you didn't live in a state with a hard on for owners of older cars, it wouldn't be so bad. In Virginia, if the car has a cat, you're fine. But you will probably have to put it back pretty near stock. I'm sure they'll be looking for the air pump and cats and it probably won't be that easy to pass the sniffer unless your car is tuned pretty lean. Good luck!

i wouldn't try it but someone talked one time about putting alchohal in the gas. A certain amount for a certain time to get it to pass emissions on the tailpipe.
