So I've been going to rick for a while to get things lapped, balanced, broken in, pressed in, etc...and because I recently started a job that does not allow me any spare time, but extra money...I asked if he'd be willing to stack my motor for me...

Well, he thought about it for a while, and he said he'd do it!! I stacked my last one, it went great, just got tired of the bridge port...and I blew those rotary aviation seals, well, the seals didn't break, but lots of other things in my motor did (took it apart running 6months after the incident though)

Anyways, I'm super excited about him doing it...so far he's ported, lapped, dowel pinned the irons, and balanced the S4 low comp rotors.

This engine is going to be TIGHT.

He hasn't built a non-race application motor since like the late 80's

MPM 12-14-2004 12:21 PM

Thats huge. I went to school with his son in the late 80's. I wish I had been interested in rotary engines then. I might have had an inside connection to getting myself some good deals.

Judge Ito 12-14-2004 04:10 PM

post a pic of Rick. doing your engine. tell him I said hello. one day I'll have the honor in shaking his hand..

Judge Ito 12-15-2004 07:41 AM

awesome

93BlackFD 12-16-2004 09:12 AM

low comp rotors, balanced, bearings broken in on lathe

ready to go

93BlackFD 12-16-2004 09:13 AM

ported/lapped by rick himself

ignore the surface rusting, we got that boeshield stuff to clean up before assembly

93BlackFD 12-16-2004 09:14 AM

front/rear counterweights were bought blank, and then balanced to match the rotors

the whole assembly was 200grams off weight until after balancing

93BlackFD 12-16-2004 09:15 AM

dowel pinned

Old Splatterhand 12-16-2004 09:26 AM

Why dont you just spray a little WD-40 on em to keep em from rusting?

banzaitoyota 12-16-2004 01:33 PM

BOESHIELD T-9 is FAR superior to WD-40

Judge Ito 12-20-2004 06:12 PM

93BlackFD 12-20-2004 07:21 PM

i recommend them to myself, after having an explosive situation https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

So rick has inspected my parts. The rear oil regulators that I gave him were both bad. One was about 110psi and the other was 72psi relief pressure.

He says one is probably a very worn turbo version, and the other is a non turbo version. So now I've got to buy another one of those. The front oil regulator spring was 2mm shy of being acceptable. I now have a laundry list of parts to buy that didn't meet his standard.

He also wants to modify my water pump and thermostat...this could be interesting.

astrochild7 01-19-2005 10:58 PM

how does he want to modify the pump and thermostat. please tell>>>>

GMON 01-20-2005 12:20 AM

thats awesome, is it going to be a full bridge, or an extended side port or what?

with a gt35r a bridge would be hellacious with that sort of spool.

93BlackFD 01-21-2005 11:13 PM

here's pics of the freshly ported/lapped/cleaned/polished irons and new rotor housings

rick did all the port work

here's the modified oil pump galley on the right, stock is on the left

if you'll notice, he added some duration to the pressure side of the galley, and smoothed out both sides

C. Ludwig 01-22-2005 12:44 AM

Wow! I'm impressed that he's let you document the build in this way. Send thanks from all of us do it yourselfers!!!!

Judge Ito 01-22-2005 09:24 AM

I have known all about Mr.Rick Engman for the last 16 years. One day I will meet the legendary guru. First time I have seen his exhaust ports. Identical to some of my exhaust ports. Once I finish up the sell of my shop. I'm going to drive down to meet Cameron at pettit racing, before I stop at pettit I'm going to visit Rick in Atlanta..

l8t apex 01-22-2005 09:39 AM

hey Ito....I just notice the top of the exhaust port.....look familier?

I think the water pump mods and thermostat mod...(some by pass?) are something new. The oil passage porting job I didnt know was on that end. I always cleaned up the front housing oil port . More pics of the water pump stuff PLEASE.

93BlackFD 01-22-2005 10:04 AM

more pics will be coming for sure, ITO, be sure to let me know when/if you will be in the neighborhood
