Hey I am about to purchase a gtus rx-7 and I was told that the engine would crank and drive before it was removed. However when it did run it would smoke alot and blow some oil out of the exhaust. I just wanted to see your guys opinions on whether this would be a easy rebuild or what and what do you think the problem is. Thanks for your time.

sounds like a bad oil control ring(s) ... should be a fairly straight forward rebuild, possibly needing to have the side housings lapped..

Can't say for sure without tearing the engine down, but it'll be cheaper than if something had come apart in it.

So would this be possible for a newbie like me. I would have to send away to get them lapped or should I just send the whole thing to get redone. I was thinking about a street port.

Truth be told, there is no honest way to tell if an engine can be rebuilt until it's apart. Oil rings might be fine and the housings might be worn beyond spec.
