Lynn,

Where did you find someone to manufacture the irons like the one shown above. Thank you.

Brad

There are a number of projects in the works for aluminum housings, with various methods for clamping

the wear surface in place.

One is a fellow found on Paul Lamars site, http://www.rotaryeng.net/ and another is on the Flyrotary mailing list. http://lancaironline.net/lists/flyrotary.

Both have to do with using rotary engines in home built aircraft. So reliability and light weight are more important than very high HP.

My personal best was just under 16,000 RPM. The driver was coming down the hill at Road Atlanta when he selected 1st gear while trying to select 3rd gear. The Hewland went right into gear of course, and it was a clutchless downshift, pitching the car sideways, and alerting the driver that an error had been made.

I did the 2nd gear redline to 1st gear "upshift" last year at the hillclimb.

I shifted into "3rd" and couldn't figure out why the exhaust note went silent, no power even though I had it on the floor and there was incredible gear whine.

Luckily roadspeed was lower than 60mph due to wheelspin so I didn't do the full 16,000rpm in 1st.

After a second of being baffled I caught on and put it back into 2nd and off I went. No problems with the engine so far...

Normally this engine is limited to 8,000rpm as 8,500rpm was "polishing" the outsides of moderately race clearanced main bearings (8.5:1 rotors).

ive had 2 stationary gear incedents.

second one ive mentioned a lot, the k2rd, its motor, 8250 limiter in 3rd, something let go and the rotor went from orbiting to rotating, broke everything.....

first one, was a pro7 car, classic 3rd to 1st upshift, engine ran ok, but made bad ticking noises, we figure about 12k....

I was feeling saucy on the way to an auto-x one day and after winding out 3rd I subconsciously decided 2nd gear would be more fun than 4th.

I quickly depressed the clutch to correct my mistake but the tach was buried and I did get a nice visible poof from the exhaust. It was my 95's stock engine with 30-something k.

No problems after that.

Nothing like the rpm's some of you guys are spinning but it scared the hell out of me for a sec.
