Like everyone else said. Get it running and idleing at least up to operating temp then report back.

Yah like everyone said get it up and running for more than 2 seconds and report back to us after it has reached operating temp for more than 2 seconds than report back.

So I installed the exhaust manifold gasket, put the turbo back on, and left my downpipe off. I attempted to start it a few times but it appears the timing is off (for some reason), and my timing gun is broken. Needless to say it will sputter a few times and I get some smoke, not an excessive amount or anything though because it's not running.



After a few of these attempted starts a pull of oil formed at the vband lip on my turbo. It then started dripping down the manifold. I'm also noticing a little bit pooling where the oil pan meets the motor, that little lip...right under the dowel pin.



WTF?



I'm going to fiddle with it some more and try and get it to start...I guess that will hopefully yield the information you guys need to tell me what's really wrong...

You run a distributor or you have that haltec ignition or something





You can set dizzy timing 100% perfect without a timing gun.. Align the pickups inside the dizzy with the timing notches (short explanation, but I don't think you're using a dizzy)



That oil pooling is a likely leaky oil pan, how bad is the pooling? I wouldn't worry too much about that part for right now, I believe there's a chance it could be the dowel assembly leaking, but that's worst case scenario, (don't quote me on it anyways I'm not 100% on oil an oil passage there anyways) every used rotary develops a leak under that stud above the oil pan mating surface (just a gasket)



I imagine you changed the pan anyways when you put this RE in your FB, you're using a GSL-SE front-cover engine mount right?



Probably just pan-leak.







Again though you really need the motor to run for some time to clear up any left-over oil kicking around, there's tons in the pan anyways, so you can idle it worry-free for a while without huring anything and see if it clears up.

Thanks for the advice Colin. I am running the Cosmo CAS and using my 12a front cover. Here is a pic of where there is some oil leaking. It does look like it's coming from the dowel pin assembly but it's SO hard to tell. It's not a massive amount, as you can see from this pic:
