Just finished porting and building up my new motor this weekend - here are a few pics! I used the racing beat porting template for the intake side, and had mazdatrix do the exhaust ports (the $30 bucks i'd save isn't even close to worth the time it takes to grind 'em out https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR )

I was going to polish them, but I figured it'd take double the time, and I have my doubts that you get much of a power benefit from polishing, especially with the stock cast intake manifolds.

Let me know what you guys think - First time porting anything... The streak on the intermediate housing happened about 10 seconds before I finished the job (go figure...), but it's no more than 7/10 of a thou deep (.0007), so I'm not worried about it. I went over it with a ground block and 600 grit paper to get any edges off it.

Enjoy...

couple more pics...

The step wear on the housings measures less than half the max - the flash makes them look much worse than they are!

Cool, good luck. Looks pretty good to me.

Please tell me you didn't use ERW Exhaust Tubing to make your manifold.

Please enlighten me as to what "ERW" means.

manolis 01-19-2005 12:05 PM

well I'm not sure what ERW tubing is... but it's from mcmaster carr. 1/8" thick wall, 1.68" ID 304 stainless tubing. Bulletproof, and dirt cheap - cost about 40 bucks for the whole thing. It'll work like a charm.

Okay, from one of the pics it looked like ERW (Electircally Resistance Welded) Common Exhaust tubing

45735K215 is the part number

from their homepage, click on pipe and pipe fittings then stainless steel pipe fittings and pipe then elbow --> female 90* elbow, you want the butt-weldxbutt-weld ones, in 304/304l. 1.5" pipe is a bit small for the ports - i'd go with 2" if i did it again.

the pipe the seel works great, all my custom exhause stuff is made from it
