Growing up as a V8 guy I dealt with a few small blocks. One of the first things we would do is drop it off at the machine shop and have it hottanked. removed all the grease, grime. old paint etc. Has anybody ever tried this on the irons? I know you can't do it with the housings because the solution in the tanks will eat the aluminum, but I don;t see why we couldn't do this to the irons. Basically I am looking to find out if anyone has done this before and if there were any problems in doing it.

I just take all my pieces down to the automatic tranny shop and go through their hot washer. A lot safer than a hot tank
