My understanding is that the surge tank just gives the air a place to get bounced around in until the engine can receive it.
i always thought of it like a bank....

An aftermarket ECU would be required with something like this, correct?

Technically, you could probably make it work on a n/a with the stock ecu, but you would want a standalone. I dont think the gains would be worth the effort/cost on the stock ecu.

Yes, that is correct. This is the reason why Honda B-series engines and Nissan SR20 and Toyota 2JZ engines will run lean on a specific cylinder due to unequal airflow distribution.





Isin't this were tuning comes into play, no matter what type of intake your using/making/fabricating?
I don't have enough experience to offer a good opinion on this matter.

If you're talking about fine tuning fuel injectors on certain primary or secondary runners to keep AFR's in check, then yes this is a band aid way of doing it.
