I can not detect any End play after getting the irons lapped.. Right now I'M running a "K" (0.3173) End play spacer.

I know I need a thicker End play spacer but how much thicker should I go..??? I know they took around 0.002 off each iron surface.

Oh yeah and does anybody know where I can get a hold of a new end play spacer..??

Thanks again guys!!

OK I have been reading some really good stuff from Lynn E. Hanover..

I did notice that the engine is a bit stiff and takes a bit more effort to turn with two hands.. So I think that the rear stationary gear might be touching the back of the rear throw.

I think that Lynn E. Hanover said that I could just install a gasket between the rear stationary gear and the iron to fix the problem...

Or even a gasket under the front stationary gear as well....

I'm going to give it a shot....

The only control of end play is the spacer length. Although outside forces may enter into the picture, such as a long rear main bearing if that was changed.

Or, a thrust bearing slipped off of the spacer while the stack was torqued, and reduced end play to zero.

Look at the thrust assembly. The thick washer has a chamfer on one side that goes against the face of the main bearing. Then the spacer, then the rear thrust bearing then the thrust plate, then the front thrust bearing, then the thin washer, then the counter weight and so on. Tork it up to whatever you want to run. Check it again. Still nothing?

loosen the thrust plate screws and lift the plate 1/16". slip a thick feeler gage under each side, and check again. If you have end play now, the problem is in the back of the engine. Tighten two thrust plate bolts and loosen all of the rear main bolts. Do the feeler gage thing again. If that cures it, remove the rear stationary gear and inspect the front end of the main bearing for damage.

This could be a bearing pressed in too far or one that is just a hair too long. You can scrape off the excess. Or, reseat the bearing with less depth, or place a gasket under the stationary gear.

It all works, but be sure that no thrust bearings have been damaged.

Mazdaspeed motorsports will get you a discount if you can prove you race.

not unless you are a dealer, or a racer.

Grinding does not affect end play at all.

well I used a T 8.10 (0.3189) end play spacer, And now I have .003 of end play Witch is a whole lot better but my engine is still pretty stiff. It is pretty hard to turn the front pulley with two hands.. I can't turn the front pulley with one hand at all..

The engine has end play so I don't think the rear stationary gear is touching the back of the rear throw.

The last rebuild i did, Did not have this problem.. I wounder what is making this engine so stiff.. I dont want to mess up on this one i have way too much money invested in it.

maybe I'm just be paranoid and it will be fine once it get broke in..??????
