well, like it says, is emory paper ok to use on rotor faces? I finally got the engine apart, and the rotor faces are pretty thick with carbon buildup. I have a bunch of 400 grit emory paper, can I get the rotors nice and clean again with it?

Before you start trying to sandpaper all that gunk of your rotors I would suggest using some solvent, soap, gasoline or whatever you have available to wash them with. I have used oven cleaner alot in the past......just spray it on and get a good brush and scrub away. It is safe to use sandpaper on the rotors but you don't want to paper the whole darn thing!!

oh yea, I know not the whole thing, just the faces. i'll try the gas/solvent first, and if that doesn't get it, then paper it is.

Get that nasty solvent that they sell at automotive stores. Just let the rotor sit in it over night and the job should be done for you.

I soak in kerosene, then take a SS wire brush to the rotor to get off the carbon.

I soak in gas for a minute to cut through the oil and start brushing with a toothbrush (Oral B seems to hold up well in gas). Then once all the loose stuff is removed, I let the rotors dry for a while. Then I hit them with a fine wire wheel. The faces come out looking great.

I use a rubber bristled grinding pad on a 90 degree grinder.
