White lithium grease for apex seals, stationary gears and bearings. Then a cap full of motor oil in each exhaust port when motor is together. Spin motor slowly until fully lubed. Smokes a little but who cares.

Vaseline and oil. RTV on the legs. I gave Hylomar a try and didn't like it.

RTV on the legs is a whole lot easier to clean up between rebuilds than Hylomar. Even with a powerful solvent (heh, it kills insects in like 1 second), it's a pain to deal with.

[quote name='guitarjunkie28' date='Mar 11 2005, 01:27 PM']but vasaline smokes too much and doesn't hold the seals in place as well as wheel bearing grease...you gotta use 10X as much too.

a dab of wheel bearing grease has the power of a big glob of vasaline.

always used vasoline and lots of oil on the plates.... the first start smoke was always like a celebration of sorts to me.
