What is good assembly lube to use? And what do you use on the plates?
|
i use oil and wheel bearing grease. grease to keep the seals in place and lube up the stationaries, and oil for everything else. my motors typically only smoke for 2-3 minutes on initial startup, and the last one i did only smoked for about a minute and a half.

Oil and vasolene baby https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif

but vasaline smokes too much and doesn't hold the seals in place as well as wheel bearing grease...you gotta use 10X as much too.

Would it be bad to use a Red Line assembly lube or something of the sort? Why would vasaline or gear oil be better? Im not really worried about smoking for the first day or so.

I use this stuff from an automatic transmission place. Its basically a tub of vasoline and a little atf and something to make the vasoline thicker. It was pretty good and holding the seals in place. And it only smoked for a few minutes.
