Finally going to assemble it this week. Its been in the process for many months. My engine builder is letting me do most of the work. Let me tell you a little about it.

Ported 6-port - We use devcon or either a teflon rod inserted into the port to build a ramp instead of the wall you end up with when removing the sleeve. In my case we used devcon. Just carefully pack it in avoiding air pockets then let it sit for a few days in a warm room. Port it as needed. If your going to remove the sleeve this is the best way to get the best flow out of that port. We didn't port it to much as this is a daily driver. And yes I know removing the sleeves will kill my torque at lower rpm's but this is a rotary and we are building it to spin reliablily to 8500rpm.

Eccentric shaft - Polished and tapered(I think). Its so pretty now.

Oil pump - Using a TII pump and bumping the oil pressure up a little. The rear stationary gear bearing is modified for the increased pressure. Not sure what my engine builder did but its a good reliability mod more than a performance mod.

S4 Intake - Port matched all the intake pieces as well as cleaned up the casting imperfections. I'll have a stand alone EMS in a few months. With that thought in mind we decided we didn't need to port the intake since the increased air flow we get from removing the AFM will provide enought air for the mild port job. Since this car is going to be a daily driver the factory runner size is adequate. We decided to utilize the factory intake as thats what most ppl end up using on there ported 6-port engine.

Exhaust - I'm undecided right now. Will start out with the factory cast manifold and a straight pipe that replaces the catalytic convertors. Factory mufflers are being utilized to start with. I'd like to keep the engine nice and quiet yet mostly free flowing so I might try the Bonez convertors and some type of dual mufflered catback(Borla). As this is my daily driver I don't mind hushing the engine up some but on the other hand I know the engine will be capable of more with the proper loud, free flowing exhaust. The Mazdatrix Header/Convertor combo comes to mind. Maybe a true dual setup will be tested. Its yet to be decided.

Thats all the major stuff. We're expecting about 165-175 HP to the rear tires after the EMS and proper exhaust is installed and tuned. Who knows, maybe more. We start every engine on a test stand and run them for 4-5 hours to start the break in process and generally check the engine for leaks and such. I'll video the virgin starting of the engine. Maybe Vosko will host the video for me(hint hint).

Wish me luck.

Following this link click on "my car" under my post. Its the 88 GTU. It was painted over 8 years ago with the wing and front air damn. It wasn't considered rice then but now I guess it is. Its getting repainted with a subtle rear wing the end of this year. My racecar on the same page is getting an agressively ported 6-port(maybe a bridge port) by the same engine builder. That car weighs about 2250# right now without the rollcage.

To my ears the best my RX-7 ever sounded was with the convertors replaced with the straight pipe and the stock pieces. It wasn't to loud and had a nice sound, atleast to my ears. After that combination I replaced the stock mufflers with some Supertrapps. They were extremely loud without the disc in place. To get it to a managable level I used about 6 disc in each trapp but that constricted it so much you could tell above 6000rpm.

Another option is to put a presilencer(expensive if purchased new) on the replacement pipe or get a 4" round Magnaflow muffler w/2.5" ID on the replacement pipe. They are stainless steel and cost less than $100 brand new. They should hold up pretty well.
