I'm now putting my engine back together. The factory manual suggests that loctite 312 adhesive be used to glue the apex and the corner seal together before re-inserting them. I'm thinking it's for just holding the parts together as they are inserted into the apex seal channel. Is that true? I'm also having trouble finding this stuff. Is there anything else I can OR SHOULD use to do this?

That is true, I did mine without but it's a bit of a nuisance. Actually a big nuisance. The corner piece doesn't want to stay put, keeps popping out in between the housings as you're trying to put the side housing on.

turrentine just uses petroleum jelly to hold all the seals in place, it melts away once it's warmed up and burns up cleanly... I tried it with a spoon on the stove.

I had new apex seals so they already had the corner piece adhered onto the edge piece, but I imagine the petroleum jelly would do just fine with holding it in place, at least until the apex seal springs go in, then it's probably better to have some brittle adhesive holding it together that will snap apart once you crank it a few times fully assembled. But even then, you install the apex seal springs with the rotor housing present to hold the seals back in the rotor groove, I'm not sure how much it will want to pop out vertically in this situation, the jelly might work well enough to keep it down.

I could not get the Loctite 312 kit for this weekend. It would take a week to get here from a mid-west distributer. So I called Loctite and told them what I was doing. He suggested an alternate adhesive, 430 or 401. I read the MDS report on the 401 and it is literally "super glue" any cyanacurate(I know that it is spelled wrong) is the same stuff. I'm thinking why spend $35 and wait a week. I'm using go old fashioned super glue from the local K-mart.

you dont need a very good glue, you want it to break as soon as you spin the engine

cyanoacrylate doesn't hold that well on metal, but it's worth a try

yeah, any old super glue will likely do the trick, as long as you get the surface nice and clean.
