When it's round on top, the closing is more gradual. According to that article, a rounder exhaust port gives a broader torque band while a squarer port gives more peak power. That's from the article posted.

But really how much of an improvemnet are we talking about? I don't know that the benifit is worth the extra effort. Do you know what the result of this is going to be? What exactly are you hoping to accomplish?

I was just interested in the possibilities. I don't know exactly how much improvement is to be had. I probably won't do it on Brad's engine, but in the future, after I have ported a few engines, I will probably try it on mine, to see if there is a difference.

Just as a follow up & a resource...

I had a difficult time finding the proper bits to do this with. Originally I used a small dremel tool (thanks wargasm) and Carbide burs that were very small. This seemed to work just fine. That is until I did it with the larger carbide 1/4 drive shanks and an air compressor. Man talk about a big difference. The work was so much easier with the proper tools.

So I was trying to locate the carbide cutters online for everyone.

You will have to run a search for"carbide burs"

Yeah, I know to do it right, that's what I'd have to do. If I do end up doing it, it will be after I have ported, and driven several engines/cars. If I do it, and seem to notice and power difference, then I might take the time to test it via dyno. Regardless, right now it's still more of a pipe dream.

Well I would love to see you do it. It's a bit more than I would attempt but,I think it would be a good experiment.

If your willing that is. ...Keep posting those wild ideas of yours Danny. :bigok:
