after a dissapointing saturday we came back to win our class (ps1, nasa) in a 3 hour enduro!
wednesday: we build motor for race car
friday: i make paul put the motor in, i built it, he blew it up, it only fair. the car starts up after dark, we put it on the trailer, drive to thunderhill. its nice cause we get to listen to this call in talkshow about aliens and stuff, its funny
saturday: get get to the track at 7am, the time paul told us, everything starts at 8. paul and tommy (tommy runs a spec miata) show up at about 830. we miss a session putting the car together. we miss another session getting a tech sticker. so i finally get out there (group2 ive never driven the car before), and i get about 6 laps before the oil drain plug falls out. i get towed back to the pits and we go get a drain plug at walmart. put oil in it and send it back out, for seth in group 4, he pulls it in after hes done and the upper radiator hose pops off. so we fix that, and decide to look over the whole rest of the car. we ended up putting new brakes pads on, bleeding the fronts, and redoing a couple other little things. we send paul out for his saturday race, and he places 2nd out of 3 cars.
sunday: we get there at 8:30, and start looking over the car again, it fine, it does another group 4 run, and then we get it ready for the enduro, it gets a full tank of gas and another look over.
so our competition in the enduro is this:
a second gen integra; it runs a 2:00 flat at thunderhill
a black 4 lug fc: it runs a 2:05
us: our best is 2:07 with alex, tommy runs 2:09's, paul and craig our other drivers were running 2:16's
a white and blue fc: he runs 2:20's, not really worried about this guy
so we put craig in first, and the race starts, i dont know what times he was running but he was out there for 70minutes, in that time the acura had to come in to change the axle shaft, putting him out of the running, and the other black fc ran over something and had to come in for another oil cooler or somthing, also putting him out of the running (not that we knew this). we put paul in the car next and he ran his lap times dropped over the hour he was running 2:11's when we pulled him out of the car. we then sent tommy out. right about here paul start worrying that the car is 50lbs underwieght. so we have him start chugging water. we also brought tommy in for another 5 gallons of gas (5*6=30lbs, turns out the car was on e anyways, we can only put in 10 gallons at a time). we bump into the tech guy after we send tommy out and he was packed up and ready to leave, so we had paul chug all that water for nothing
. we won the race by 2 laps, and that kinda crowned off the weekend.
