this reply is a little on the late side, but i run a s4 turbo 5spd in my rx-3,i use a 3 puck solid hub disc, and asingle diaphrm pressureplate, behind a Peripheral port 13B,my car runs 12.58@110,with a 1.68 60ft.my tranny has had 0 problems, and i shift at 11,000 rpms,so no need to worry about breaking the tranny, they are plenty tough,as far as scratching 2nd,you need more tire.you should be able to leave the line hard, and go all out till the end,and do it repeatedly.just my 2 cents.

Yokohama all-seasons.
Yokohama all-seasons.
I found a set of junkyard rims and mounted a pair of BFG T/A Drag Radials. They hook up very well.
If you didn't want to make the investment now, you could try dropping your tire pressure. Just remember to re-inflate them before you hit the highway.
