I have a s5 t2 with an ACT S/S clutch. When i shift from 1st to 2nd it scratches for a full second. This is jamming on and off and shifting as fast as i can. I realize all cars are different but this is what i've done in all my friend's civic and teg and my old supra and it worked fine. But with the t2 traction seems to be much more of an issue.

So my question is this. What should i slow down, ease onto the gas slower after changing gears or ease off the clutch and keep on the gas. Or a combination of both. The thing with these two options is that it seems like slower shifting. I'm a complete newb tot he world of drag racing so any help or pointers would be great. Thanks.

I've been here several times so you aint alone.

I have the ACT ceramic 6 puck coming with the Judge Ito rebuild. I will only know then . However I know that when I speed shift now(CenterForce) only AFTER hitting the rev and never letting off the gas it doesn't spin as much as if I let off shift and throttle which inturn actually revs the motor as the car unloads for a millasecond then dump into higher gear. Still spins some but not as much.

Each car will react differently with each driver, what you can do in one car may not nessecarily work in another car. Practice makes perfect in this case, experiment to see what works best for you. I suggest slowing down a little. Mazda trannies are not the best when it comes to syncronizers, and jamming gears will either leave you with a noisy tranny, or with pieces of it on the ground. Its all about rythm. You will find that once you get the pattern down that you acctually increase in your times.

lots of different factors........but its mainly technique........sometimes you are grabbing and pulling too far left........etc etc.......try different methods and yeah mazda trannies are prone to breaking

Thanks for the tips guys, though the mazda tranny info is a bit disheartening.

Any tranny will go out faster if you beat the living **** out of it.. I wouldn't be disheartened over the reality that **** can and will break...

What is scratching for a full second? The tires? Or are you hearing a gear grind for a second?

If its a gear grind its a synchro. They cost about $5. Thats the good news. Replacing them can get expensive as the tranny needs to be torn down.

It sounds like that tranny has had some abuse in its past. I have 2 trannies for my FC. I bought the one I am using now off a guy in Canada that was doing a V-8 swap. It was rebuilt and had 5K miles on it. It never grinds between gears. Well.. except for 4-5.

The tranny I took out did though 1-2 and 3-4 shifts were bad. You might want to save up to rebuild the tranny. Or try to find on ein good shape. <---- Hard to do.
