Thats bullshit. Screw those guys, all the non-vette guys should just stop showing up for events and start up something different. Let the vettes play by themselves if they want to make up rules as they go.

I did some research.



The new proposed weight for the Corvette is 2650. The new proposed weight for the RX-7 is 2500.



Here is something cool. They are leaving the Porsche 944 Turbo alone. Thier Min. weight is 2200 lbs. I know for a fact there is a BP Porsche here in Florida that has well over 400 HP running 18 PSI boost.



So it looks like a Porsche win at the next National event. I might even consider building a 944T for the next nationals. Lets see more horsepower more torque and 300 lbs. lighter. Tough decision.



I hope they name this new rule change the Steve O'Blean since he is the RX-7 driver that clobbered everyone 2 years in a row and seems to be the reason for the rule change.

I think it would be a good thing to e-mail them and tell them you think it is unfair to add a weight penalty to a car just because a good driver has showed up at the Nationals.



I have been up against my share of "National Champions" and I am now positive that the National Championship is not a gathering of the best drivers in the SCCA it is mearly a gathering of the well to do that can afford to be there. A majority of them are hacks that can barely keep their cars under control yet they have a National title. I point to the Mazda-rev-it up competition in Miami as an example. I am a newbie to Autocross and do not totally understand car control yet. When I went head to head in Miami against many multi-national champs in the same car on the same course I beat all of them except 2. One of the 2 that beat me is the winningest driver in the SCCA today. He is actually a good driver one of the few I have encountered in my short stint as an Autocrosser.



I am going to start a new thread and hope to start a e-mail campaign to stop these rule makers.

If you write a letter to the SEB, I'd advise that you be as objective as possible, and provide as much unbiased data as you can. Writing a letter and ranting that you think the proposed changes sucks isn't going to go very far. Use power/weight now vs. the proposed change or some other measurable parameter to support your argument.



Steve has been very dominating the last couple years, but frankly the top Corvette's have not been at Nationals to dispute things. That makes the perception of the RX7 being an overdog that much stronger.

Honestly AMRX7 I dont care if they add the weight. I weigh 2620 right now. I actually drive in Autocrosses with my Bazooka tube in the car still. Its my good luch charm. I frequently come up against the AP Cobra that took 1st at the Ft. Meyers Pro Solo this year and continually win or loose by 100ths. I feel my car can be very competative at 2500 lbs.



I feel bad for guys that have built Bp RX-7s this year to now have to add all that weight back to their cars.



AMRX7 is right do not rant. It will only agitate the SCCA and honestly when they get a hard on they get their way.



I still think the car to race next year is a Posche 924T.

I don't care what the "car of the year" is. I auto-x to enjoy myself, despite the SCCA's best efforts to piss everyone off

This really pisses me off. Many times I've had to accept the fact that the car I own just isn't competitive in its class (I've had many cars) but I've always just sucked it up and had fun anyway. Some cars dominate and some suck, if you are serious about winning you have to go buy a competitive car to start with, its just that simple.



Changing the rules because a lowly rx-7 is beating a corvette SUCKS!

I heard that they are doing this so that a 10yr old + car is the "the car to have" IE they want to have newer cars winning (help car companies sell product, even though they are supposedly not sponsored by car companies). If this is the case why don't they just have a "classic" class for the slightly older cars. They have been doing this in motorcycle club racing for a long time and it has worked very well.
