I was just at a driving school today (Evolution) and the instructors were telling me that the SCCA just raised the minimum weight of a B-Prepared RX-7 400 lbs!!!

It seems the TurboII (Steve O'Bleans) that has kicked everyones *** at the Nationals these last two years has caused some concern amongst the Corvette crowd. So they raised the weight limit to basically its stock weight. If I remember correctly the min. weight was 2300 so not it will be 2700. To put this in prespective my TII weighs 2690 and has a full interior and is not stripped down at all it even has A/C!! While the Corvettes are allowed to strip their cars down.

It seems the can't beat them ban them attitude has prevailed again.

I wonder if it ever occured to any of those boneheads that maybe its just Steve O'Bleans driving skill that caused him to crush everone else 2 years in a row??

Good news for me is I can run my Street car next year at the Nationals.

I Posted up on the SCCA Forum and got this answer.

There are 4 options for the BP classs:

1. Do nothing leave everything as it is.

2. Raise the min weight of the RX-7 400 lbs.

3. Lower the Coverttes weight. I do not know how much.

4. Riase the RX-7s weight AND lower the corvettes weight.

There seems to be some concern since an RX-7 won 2 years in a row that no one else is going to step up and try to beat it. I.E. the corvette *****'s. So the SCCA feels it is neccesary to keep things interesting by penalizing a particular car to the point that it will be taken out of contention and then all the corvette ******** will be happy again.

Go look at last years results. Super Stock has like 40 Corvettes and a Viper and a BMW M-3. A-Street Prepared is all Covettes.

I am guessing if its not a Corvette it is not allowed to win.

I bumped out of ASP on purpose due to the rules that allow the Corvettes to have over 200 HP more than me. I was not allowed to have a boost controler and that single rule keeps me out of contention. So I went to BP so I can be competative and possible win. Now this crap.

That's re-goddamn-diculous. If your car isn't winning, build a better car and/or become a better driver. What's next, no turbocharged 7s?

Go with the grizzly bear co-pilot option. Should be VERY useful during further rule discussions.

I've got 25 preparation points with a stock suspension and the engine has never been out of the car. I'd like to see someone do that with a Corvette.

Next thing you know they're going to have to add some cinder blocks in the back of the stock 7s just to make it more "fair".

I just got my new issue of Sportscar Magazine and the Fasttrack news now reports an amendment to the rule change in the BP class. They are now proposing the min weight of the RX-7 Turbo to be 2500lbs up from 2200 lbs. And they are proposing to lower the corvette min weight by 100 lbs.

Just for referance. My TII weighs 2620 with my racing rims and tires. I have not done any weight reduction to my car at all. The BP class is for stripped down cars, no interior no a/c lexan rear window no side windows etc.. you get the picture. The BP Corvettes are stripped down like this and can easily have over 500 HP and torque about the same.

Steve Obleans was rumored to have been about 100 lbs too heavy last year and weight about 2300-2350 lbs. He will now have to add 150-200 lbs to his dedicated race car.

I have to remove 120 lbs from my daily driver that has a/c and a full interior.

I am looking for an e-mail address that will get us in touch with the decision makers in the SCCA. I will post it and I urge all of you to express how you feel about these proposed changes.

Trust me the Corvette guys obviuosly have been at work here. Like its not enough they have SS locked up and ASP has just enough rules to keep RX-7's out of contention. BP is the only place we can race and dominate and not be choked to death with rules. Now they are trying to change that. Dont get me wrong I like good competition but the rules in ASP are obviously made to keep the Corvette in 1st place and I am sure the Vette guys had a lot to do with it.

Look for an e-mail address soon.
