Whats better Crank Trigger or Distribution
#5
A simple crank trigger is easy to build. If you run the stock FD controller the toothed wheel behind the front pulley is the crank tigger.
I used Chrysler pick ups turned inside out and rebuilt with brass screws from the hobby shop. Steel screws short out the magnet
and nothing works. Just a steel screw head passing by the biased pick up will trigger a stock Chrysler (Dodge/Plymouth) amplifier, and they sell for about $20.00. or, an MSD or Hifire or most systems.
The pickups are about $7.00
One clever system is just one reluctor (screw head) on the pulley and 2 pickups 180 degrees apart. One pick up to trigger an MSD to fire an MSD double ended coil for the front housing and the other for the rear housing. Timing is rock solid. Timing mark does not move. The engine looks just like it is not running. Nothing else even comes close. About 2 HP at the top.
Not for turbo engines that need a computer to pull out timing under load.
