Ok... Some guy comes into the parts store today, and we start talking about 1st gen rx7's.

Then he askes me if I still have the stock carb on it. I say yes, Then he asks me if I noticed that the secondarys don't open all the way, And I have noticed that the secondarys dont open all the way and he starts telling me about this kit to convert the stock carb from vacuum secondarys to mechanical secondarys..

I asked him why the hell would they do that for. He told they down tuned the usd spec motors for fuel economy somthing about the fuel crsis of the 70's..

Could this be true ..???? Or is this guy full of it.???

Or did we both have worn out carbs..????

Has enyone else's carb's secondarys not open all the way??

Thanks guys!

Alot of people do the mech secondaries mod. Its easy and it really makes a difference. When I had my '82 I did it when I removed all the emissions and would recommend it to anyone.

Do a search, there is a write up somewhere.

Why would you need to fab a link turn the carb over and tack weld the bellcranks together, been doin this on the ice racers for years!

Chack it out at 'www.iceracingthunderbay.com' mine is the green 85 RX7

Because if you flip it and weld it, it makes it a little hard to put back to stock if you wanted to, or needed to.

Yeah I like the idea of fabricating a linkage better then welding stock carb pieces together... I just went down to radioshack and bought a assortment of R/C car steering parts.. Just waiting for it to stop raining/snowing/freezing so I can work on it...

My vacuum never worked on my carb when i got it... I went out and bought a misc. spring kit, and made a spring that will open the secondary barrels when I push the pedal about half way. It works good for now ( three years installed ) until I get myself an aftermarket carb.
