Smog pump elimination
#1
Hi,
I'm new to this forum, but need a pointer if possible.
I have a 3rd gen (1993) turbo rotary in my Cozy IV aircraft. I use the smog pump to power vacuum instruments.
I just destroyed my second used smog pump. This is not exactly a begnign failure - it tends to take out the belt, and loosing cooling and alternator at 12,000 feet isnt funny. I would like to either elimate the pump (replace it with an idler gear) and go all electric for my instruments, or replace it with a quality refurbished part.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
John

I would just add an electronic vacuum pump. Smog pump really wasn't built for that purpose and you could possible over stressing it. On a side note. I've always wanted to build a Cozy IV or even a Velocity. Nice looking aircraft.
