I'm in the process of rebuilding my NA and have decided to disable the OMP, I've removed the OMP drive gear + shaft and installed a block off plate. I've also installed a plug in the passage from the front housing to the front cover which provides the oil pressure to the OMP shaft/pump. This should lower rotating mass in addition to eliminating the OMP altogether, I am wondering if anyone has also eliminated the CAS when moving to a haltech or other aftermarket ECU and eliminated the drive gear which goes on the eccentric shaft (it's pretty dense) and replaced it with an equivalent spacer. I know you can put a hall effect sensor / wheel on the front of the crank with the aftermarket ECU's, anyone have any experience with this / comments on results?

Even more off-topic, have any of you replaced the exhasut port sleeves with ones that don't have the holes for the EGR gasses? Do they exist and if so where can I get them? I'm considering removing mine and welding in the holes then grinding them down smooth (and reinstalling them of course). My S4 LIM doesnt cover up all the exhaust gas passages that are on the S5 housings (particularly the intermediate) so I just want to elminate the source of the exhaust gas while also improving the flow characteristics of the exhaust port sleeves.
Most ECU's will work with the stock CAS. So it's usually a non-issue. My old TEC II used the wheel on the front with the 2 magnetic sensors. It wasn't that hard to set up.

You'll probably have to modify the sleeves yourself. I've never heard of anyone who makes such a sleeve. While you're at it you can remove that diffuser.
Actually, I'm using S5 turbo rotor housings, I have no diffuser. I wasnt asking about the CAS removal and drive gear elimination because of ECU change, I was wondering if anyone had done it *voluntarily* to reduce rotating mass, but it seems like to effectively remove both the CAS, and OMP allowing removal of the shared drive gear on the eccentric shaft, you would need to run an aftermarket ECU. So if anyone has done this modification it would likely be someone with an aftermarket ECU.

I know it's not an issue regarding ECU compatibility because you can make it work with the stock CAS, but wouldnt it be beneficial to ditch the CAS and gear anyways?

I ran silkolene in my yz125 back in the day, planning on using it at least during the break-in period of my new motor, running premix exclusively. Dunno about in the long-term though,

it gets kindof expensive.

I just use valvoline because that's what the local store sells.

I know somebody else with a TEC II who removed the CAS and just covered the hole in the front cover.

I just started using Marvels Mystery Oil. That stuff is great. It seems to mix excellent. I was very hesitant to use 2-stroke premix as I didn't want my car to smell like a dirt bike and I didn't want to leave a blue/white cloud trail behind me. I use 4oz/per 10 gal (as says the instructions). I haven't tried the Protek nor any other 2 cycle synthetic. :bigok:
