I have one..and it wasnt cheap. by using the FD intake mani, you get the benefit of having a larger TB, and a better flowing intake mani...

can someone point me to some evidence why everyone says that this combo of manifolds is superior?

well, the S4 and S5 turbo manifolds have alot of curves and bends in them for one, and two, the runners are smaller. FD intake mani has an almost straight through design, as well as using larger runners, and a larger throttle body

and tis more then jsut and adapter that you need:

ok here's what you need to do an FD UIM to an FC LIM:

A) S5 LIM...only.

B) FD TB, FD TPS, FD THrottle Cable and bracket

C) Either the FD Oil filler base piece or cut down your FC filler base as low as possible and reweld it together

D) Lengthen bolt holes on the FD UIM using the center bolt hole as the reference mark

E) Port match the FD UIM to the S5 LIM (primaries on the UIM are tinier then on the LIM)

And of course youll have to be able to wire the FD TPS into your FC harness, so having a standaloen ECU makes this swap a lot easier.

it's not really a quickie project.
