autometer boost gauge!!!

the boost part works fine. the vacuum part is off. i can deal with that

A lot of people say that autometer guages suck yet most pro motorsports teams use them. I don't understand... they must really be in the dark about the guages they're using.

while i was at Dyess AFB, my friend and i tested 5 different autometer boost gauges. ALL of then were off from 2-5 psi under boost. This was done in a precision measurement equipment laboratory. (PMEL) He works there full time and it's his job to test measuring equipment for the AF. He said the reason that most teams use them is obviously price. When driving it doesn't matter if it's off or not, just as long as it's constant. after all you don't stare at the gauge, while driving. if you're testing it against your Haltech then they should share the SAME vacuum source. different sources will vary differently. how much depends on the equipment, and several other small factors.

I see your point. Most of these guys (NASCAR) are sponsored so they get their guages for free I would imagine. Autometer is a huge company and they've been around for a long time. I can't believe their guages are off so much.... This test you're talking about make me wonder if it's just their boost and vac guages or all of them now.

You people don't seem to understand that Autometer makes many different lines of gauges starting at the basic $30 ones, all the way up to ones that exceed the price and accuracy of the rice-gauges. If you want to go get a couple low-end Autometer gauges and pressure test them, great, but you should probably get one of their better ones and test it as well to be fair. You see race teams from NASCAR, NHRA, etc. using them because they are extremely reliable and accurate when you use their race gauges, not because of sponsorship. Do a little checking next time before spouting off half-assed word of mouth info and you'll see that Autometer makes gauges that do everything your best HKS, GReddy, Defi, Apexi, etc. gauges can do, and then some. Playback, memory, datalogging, and all kinds of other things. Why do you think they've been around so long??

Amen to this, and one word from a mechanical engineer: Calibration.



Any instrument can only be considered a guide without it. If the inaccuracy of an instrument is known, compensation can be made & the instrument becomes a useful tool. The Autometer may read wrongly compared to the Haltech. How accurate is the Haltech MAP sensor?

yeah my autometer boost gauge was off by 4psi, it said 12psi and actually i was running 15-16psi. so with a stock intercooler and radiator i blew my motor up.



that's why i am getting a defi boost gauge.



and the pro's get super accurate gauges directly from the factory. they are all tested before they leave.
