yeah my autometer boost gauge was off by 4psi, it said 12psi and actually i was running 15-16psi. so with a stock intercooler and radiator i blew my motor up.
that's why i am getting a defi boost gauge.
and the pro's get super accurate gauges directly from the factory. they are all tested before they leave.

Maybe you had a spike in your boost and thats what blew up the motor
FastRotories- Did you friend by chance test any other gauges? How did he happen to come across 5 autometer boost gauges to test anyhow?

The new Cobalt series are very good gauges. Their boost gauge is self-calibrating and probably one of the most accurate available now.
Racerguy180, which gauge were you using? Were you using one of their better lines or the el-cheapo one that most people seem to get?
You get what you pay for. Buy a cheap gauge, regardless of name brand, get a cheap product.

Do you have anything to back that statement up?
I have a boost guage and it is off by 4 lbs on boost.
How do I know? When I dyno'd my car my mechanic saw the Autometer guage and grabbed his Greddy that he knows is dead on. When he set my boost for 7 lbs the Autometer was reading 11 lbs!!!!
I am glad is was off in that direction though if it was the other way I could see someones engine going POP!
****but I only had my boost set to 8 lbs!!***
When it was really 12!! hypothetically speaking of course.

my autometer guages are fine. all 6 of them. the boost reading is DEAD on with what the avc-r displays, and holds....
the vacuum seems high sometimes, but that is easily calibrated by removing the light on the back side of the guage housing and tightening up on the spring.
people that jump on the band wagon to 'dis' a brand are no better than the guys who put everything down.
i like the guages. all are carbon fiber series. all are installed by me, and with the exception of the not quite hooked up oil pressure guage, have worked fine for longer than many of you have even had an fd or anything BUT the box to put it in....
