THe people who say that VW's are unreliable are the people who don't own one, or who compare everything to a Honda Civic. There is no way someone can say that RX-7's are reliable, either, so that point is moot.
they used to suck, they still do to some extent. VW is working out the bugs(no pun intended)
i forgot i own 2 ACVWs. so yeah i like VWs.

the thing about the 2.0L ones is that they are slower than the diesels, and sound even worse. They are one of the weirdest cars out there...also, if someone is looking to buy a 2.0 Golf or a regular GTI, it might be a TAD out of their budget to get an R32..it's $10,000 more than my GTI (50% more!) was...a GTI 1.8T with chip and turbo-back is just as fast as an R32, just not AWD or 6-speed (the 5-speed is geared nicer anyway). The 20th Anniversary is a nice car, but also slower than a stock GTI because of the 6-speed tranny...GTI/Jetta 1.8T or VR6=great bang for the buck, but the 1.8T is easier to upgrade...also, try to find one without traction control if you can!

firstly nuespeed are overpriced biatches. check out www.techtonicstuning.com and seriously i have ridden in all GTI's except for a4 (the newest ones) the funnest ones i have ridden in are a1-a2 maby i am biased because i drive an a2 but they have a much less family car feel to them. much more bare boned sports car feel to them. although the older ones are slower the 1.8 4cyl is much easier modded thean the newer 2.0l xflow. this summer i will be adding an aba 2l block head work and a 288 or a 276 cam.(head work not required with 276 cam) and some non cat downpipe. good vw freind who is very knoledgeable estimates 200+ whp on a 2000 pound FWD car. along with the suspension work it will kill most cars around here as long is the straights dont get too long. sory for the long writeup but if u want to talk more about vw pm me or aim.
