Tiburon Engine Same As Sonata?
#1
I was just curious, in case I wanted to get my wife's car some pep, it'd be a lot easier finding performance stuff for a tiburon than a sonata (I'm guessing, anyway). And I figured I would ask here before going in search of a Tiburon forum.

I owned a Tiburon but I really don't think it's the same. The believe it's a different tranny but I could be wrong. I called my friend who's a Hyundai tech, but he didn't answer. I'll try and get back to you later about it when I find out.

I am assuming we are talking about the newest Tiburon? Hyunday only makes one V6 (the 2.7), which is used in the Tiburon and the Sonata. Transmissions are different, with the Tiburon having the 6-speed option, but he asked about the motor. The motor in the Sonata is slightly detuned (170hp instead of 180hp). The base Sonata uses a 2.4L Inline-4, same as the Santa Fe, while the base Tiburon uses the same 135 hp 2.0L as it used in the last generation of production. So, if both vehicles are the V6 model, then they use essentially the same motor.
So basically, what I said in my last post.
