Subaru Sti, Lancer Evo??

I thought the EVO8's price was going to start at $28k, and the sti was going to start at $35. I'm not too sure how much the sti weighs, but my guess is a few hundred pounds heavier than the EVOs 3200 lbs. I would say that the two cars acceleration #s will be pretty close, I'd say a tenth or two in the quarter mile, but that is just my opinion gathered from what I've read.

they have the STi in japan that is made lighter, but that version
isnt coming to the states. Lighter roof panel, rear glass, supposidly they
shaved 200 pounds from the car. But again, we arent getting that version.
Road and Track tested thier Evo at just over $30000. The STi is supposed
to be a bit more pricey then that.

I don't think there has been a road test of the US version STi yet. So I don't know where you got the .84g number for the skidpad... That sounds like a base WRX number though. BTW the WRX comes with crappy all season tires (for folks that get snow), so just a simple tire change and that skidpad number goes up. So the STi with stiffer springs and sway bars and better tires should be pretty close to that Evo number. I'd be surprised if it were less than .9g
I certainly hope Mitsu releases the full-tilt version (active yaw, etc) in a couple years, other wise they are going to get outsold big time by the STi! Consider the price range. If a buyer has $30K to blow on a car, I'm pretty sure they would save for a little longer to get a car with more toys, more power, and a bigger engine.
The aftermarket for the Subaru may not be as old, but it is certainly there. Mitsu has the benefit of the Eclipse following back in the day. Subaru's didn't really get started until the 2.5RS came out in '98. The Cobb tuned WRX (on this months cover of SCC) is over 400hp, and that's tuned for autocross, not max power.
It'll be a good show, between the two of them, that's for sure.

actually i beleive the sti is going to be around $32,000 i would love to upgrade my wrx to one in a couple of years. i love the look of the new sti and the old one. i like evo's too but i don't like the us version one at all... mad ugly. much worse than the ugly wrx headlights when it first came out. i do think many more people will buy the evo though. subaru is a small company while mitusbishi is huge, also, i beleieve that the STi is not going to come with a radio, they are really putting the car out for hard core drivers. i also think the evo is a joke without all its performance goodies as compared to the sti. either way both cars are awesome and i am glad we finally get both.
harrison
ps i really need to upgrade to the sti or do some big mods to the wrx, as my license plate reads "evo this" haha

oh and i want to comment on the type ra spec c. no we don't get that version, but like what was said above, america finally gets the better version, we are the only place to get the 2.5 liter turbo with 300hp, we get avcs, limited slip front and rear and the driver controlled center diff. europe doesn't even get all of that, only japan, which again doesn't get the cool new motor.
and finally, don't know prices in japan but at least in the uk evo's that have all the electronic goodies out price STi's by anywhere from 5-10 thousand pounds. last i remember a sti was going for around 30 while the evo was up more around 40... it would be nice if mitsubishi brought the pimped out version here... but it would have to be real exensive, it has everything the subaru has but it is all electronic and much better, still common concensus is that the suabaru with all its mechanical goodies is much more fun to drive, even if it is a bit slower. yet again that is with the 2.0 so... hmmmm

I'm pretty sure the STi will have a radio. Of all the things they could have cut from the car, I doubt the radio would be the first to go. The stock WRX 6 disk in dash unit is pretty nice... but you know that.
Where did you hear that?

This is true, the current Modified mag printed the press release . . . no radio, but they left in all the heavy power goodies! What is up with that??? How much can a system weigh, maybe ten pounds?
